Meta tests 'AI chat bot' on WhatsApp and Instagram in India

Facebook parent Meta has been testing its new artificial intelligence chatbot, Meta AI, on products including Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp.

Only select users in India are currently able to use Meta AI, an AI chatbot.

Social networking giant Meta introduced 'Meta AI' in September 2023 as part of its big push into generative AI.

Meta AI on Instagram DM

On Instagram, Meta AI is made available in the Direct Message (DM) feature. It can be accessed by tapping on the 'Meta AI' icon in the search bar. Similar to OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Gemini, you can directly interact with the chatbot, and Meta AI acts as an assistant that can answer all your questions, including real-time information.

Along with the answers to your questions, you will receive a link to the Google search results page where Meta AI is used to provide the answers.

Meta AI is capable of creating text and images, summarizing long texts, proofreading, editing, translating text from one language to another, and creating poems and stories.

Meta AI can also be called during chats

Meta AI Assistant can be called when you chat with someone on Instagram. For example, you can ask for recommendations for a group trip or ideas for dinner party recipes, and it will put options in front of you right in the chat. To interact with the chatbot you just type "@" and then tap Meta AI.

Meta has also started testing the chatbot on WhatsApp. Several people have shared screenshots of the chatbot on X.
